DC International School Alumni Fund Celebration

Two years ago, DCI celebrated its very first graduating class on Zoom. It was a disappointing end for a truly inspiring group of trailblazers. The classes of 2020 and 2021, and their families, founded DCI as seventh graders. They set the standard for excellence–engaging in the rigorous IB curriculum and building a caring, sustainable, and socially just community. And while we love to brag about their IB results, college acceptance rates, and genuinely wonderful young adults they became, we are excited to announce a new scholarship program just for them at this celebration.

The week before graduation, we’ll invite our supporters to experience Chinese, French, and Spanish language and cultural activities (Learn to seal a dumpling! Dance bachata!), engage in extracurriculars (Challenge our championship soccer teams! Play with the DCI robot!) and appreciate the amazing work our students do (Watch an award-winning student film! Critique some of the students’ artwork!). You’ll also be able to take a guided tour of our historic building, grab drinks and snacks in our theatre, and meet some of the alumni you’re supporting.

We also wish to honor Mary Shaffner, our Executive Director, who after opening and growing two of the most successful charter schools in the District of Columbia, DCI and Yu Ying, will be moving on to her next adventure.

Doors will open at 6:30 pm, with a brief presentation at 7:30 pm, during which we’ll recognize our sponsors. The evening will conclude with a surprise performance at 8:30 pm on the Erick Melgar Perez, Jr. field, which you won’t want to miss!
